In this episode

Back in August of 2025, Dave Berner joined the podcast previously in Season 11, episode 11, as the co-founder and CTO of Kinde. A past musician, he took up web development to make his bands websites and his friend's myspace profiles. Fast forward, he has started multiple startups, been the host of several podcasts, and is married with 3 kids.

Dave's co-founder Ryan experienced firsthand that legal AI tools were built for massive law forms. SMB's or boutiques were forced to retrofit expensive, enterprise heavy software to their workflows (and of course, budgets). Alongside their third co-founder, Vivienne, they set out to build an AI-powered legal OS designed for firms with 1 to 200 lawyers.

This is the creation story of Parachute.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Parachute, and what core problem does it solve for small and mid-sized law firms?

Parachute is an AI-powered legal operating system designed for law firms with 1 to 200 lawyers. It solves the operational leverage gap by automating legal drafting, document workflows, and client management under lawyer-verified guardrails.

Who is Dave Berner, and what is his background prior to co-founding Parachute?

Dave Berner is a technical founder and former musician who initially learned web development to build sites for his bands and Myspace profiles. He previously co-founded the developer platform Kinde (featured on Season 11 of Code Story) before co-founding Parachute with his co-founders, including Vivienne.

Why do generalist AI tools often create more work for law firms?

Generalist LLMs lack domain-specific legal context and structural precision. When clients generate DIY legal contracts with public AI models, attorneys often have to discard the entire draft due to severe hallucinations, bad logic, or non-compliant terms.

How does Parachute give boutique law firms "BigLaw leverage"?

By providing dedicated AI drafting engines, firm-wide document context, and automated administrative workflows, Parachute enables small teams of lawyers to process cases and review contracts with the speed and output of a massive enterprise law firm.
